Harvest Market Comes to Navan

As a town nestled in the heart of the Boyne Valley where local farmers and producers are
filling the shelves and cupboards of stores and households throughout the country, it seems
a shame that locals often have to travel to Dublin to get to sample our native bounty. At the

Love Navan Town Hall meeting earlier this year many people called for the introduction of a
farmers market to help correct this anomaly. In response Love Navan has created the Navan
Harvest Market.

The first ever Navan Harvest Market will be held outside the Solstice Arts Centre & Navan Library
this Saturday and for 4 consecutive Saturdays, from 10am -3pm, to celebrate the harvest, our local
produce and home crafts. Starting small it is the hope of the organisers that the public will show their
interest in having a regular farmers market in our town and encourage the establishment of a regular
weekly Farmers market in Navan. The farmers market movement, which is catching fire throughout
the world, emphasises local produce, reduced waste and environmental impact, supporting local
makers and a reconnection with ones local community. Currently Navanites are travelling to markets
in Trim, Athboy and Drogheda for their weekly groceries and it's the hope of Love Navan that soon a
thriving market will be attracting people from throughout the county to the county town to sample all
the best that the Boyne Valley has to offer.

Featuring organic fruit and veg from Organic for Health, handmade cheese from Boyne Valley
Farmhouse Cheese and the Slane Food Circle, handcrafted crochet gifts from Helen’s Crochet Creations
and stunning handmade shopping baskets by Wild White Bear the market aims to cater for everybody
and reintroduce the tradition of market shopping to our town.

The Love Navan initiative began last year when a group of volunteers banded together to promote the
people, community and activity within Navan. Since then they have been actively promoting all that is
good in the town via their Facebook page, website - www.lovenavan.ie and a weekly What’s on in
Navan event listing promoting gigs, meetings and activities for all interests.
